Tractor Supply Company announced plans Tuesday to build a new location next year near Waffle House on Highway 12 near Walmart.
Rob Hoskins, media relations officer with TSC, said the company hopes to open the 19,097-square-foot facility in Starkville toward the middle or end of January 2012. He said TSC stores typically offer 12-17 full- and part-time jobs, and Starkville and TSC have a lot to offer each other.
“As a growth-minded company, TSC is always looking for potential new store locations that are a good fit as far as the target market is concerned,” Hoskins said. “Concerning the location in Starkville, this is especially true in that the area was attractive due to the part-time and hobby farmers, and horse owners in the area. The TSC product category expertise includes lawn and garden, and animal care products that service the needs of these customers.”
The planned site for the store is to the west of Greta Lane, south of Highway 12 and south of the railroad tracks. Spencer Bailey, a realtor with Century 21, brokered the deal to bring TSC to this location, and he said TSC has already broken ground on the site.
Bailey said TSC will not only benefit MSU’s agriculture program, but also its veterinary program, including the Mississippi Horse Park.
“So many people don’t have the opportunity to buy at the price these people can afford to sell at between here and I-55,” Bailey said.
Bailey said one facet of the location that attracted TSC was the volume of visitors from Winona, Louisville, Ackerman and other nearby towns who come to West Starkville to shop. Visiting shoppers have caused an explosion of development near the Highway 25 bypass, he said, and both TSC and Starkville stand to gain from it.
“The trade area for West Starkville is huge,” Bailey said.
Bailey said he and the city of Starkville have been working to bring TSC to Starkville since 2010. The project could not have come to fruition, he said, without the leadership of Starkville Chief Administrative Officer Lynn Spruill. He said he was also grateful to Harold Wilson, the landowner who sold the site, and to Clayton Richardson, who owns neighboring land.
