Local law enforcement agencies are investigating a death after a body was discovered in the county Sunday.
The body of a female was discovered by a group of people riding four-wheelers before noon Sunday on County Lake Road, north of Harrell Road.
Oktibbeha County deputies were dispatched to the scene after the body was discovered in the area of a TVA electrical transmission line.
According to Sheriff Dolph Bryan, the body appeared to have been there for quite some time.
The body was sent to the medical examiner’s office in Jackson for an autopsy. Bryan could not say whether the woman was the victim of foul play.
“The body was in such bad shape that we don’t know who she is or what happened to her,” Bryan said.
Bryan said investigators have yet to identify the body and are awaiting the results of the autopsy and positive identification before releasing further details. He estimated it will take a week to 10 days before the department has results back from Jackson.
