The Starkville School District Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting Monday at noon at the Greensboro Center in Starkville to discus the district’s 2009 audit.
The meeting will serve as an exit conference on the fiscal year 2009 audit, completed by an auditor from Watkins, Ward and Stafford. When the firm was commissioned to do the audit several years ago, an official contract was never completed for the work, school board President Keith Coble said.
There was an agreement between the school board and Watkins, Ward and Stafford, but without a contract, the state could not release the results of the audit.
During the last school board meeting, the issue was discussed and several board members expressed concern and confusion over the matter.
“The auditor will be at the meeting to answer any questions about the report, talk about the process and where we are now, and hopefully we can take that and then determine how to move forward,” Coble said. “Hopefully it will all be much clearer after the meeting.”
School board members will see the official audit report for the first time at the meeting on Monday.
During the last meeting, the board approved a contract with a new firm, Fortenberry and Ballard, PC, for the fiscal year 2010 and 2011 audits.
