In announcing his candidacy for the office of Oktibbeha County Supervisor in District 3, Dennis “Denny Daniels made the following statement:
“I am Dennis ‘Denny’ Daniels, a candidate for Oktibbeha County Supervisor in District 3. I offer you numerous qualifications with life experience, work experiences and educational experiences.
“Born and raised in Oktibbeha County, I began service to my community as a young boy in the Boy Scouts of America where I earned the rank of Eagle Scout. After high school, I worked my way through college as a dispatcher and jailer with the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s office and later as a Police Officer with the City of Starkville. After receiving my bachelor’s degree, I returned to the sheriff’s department where I served for many years as a deputy sheriff.
“During this same time period, I also served our community, state and country as a member of the Mississippi Army National Guard. I’ve had over 18 years of military service with six of those years being on active duty with the Army, serving overseas in Bosnia and Iraq. During my time of service, I earned the rank of captain and was a battery commander in combat in Iraq where I was responsible for 100 fellow soldiers and over $500 million worth of military equipment.
“While in Iraq, I was wounded in combat. I was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. These injuries led to my retirement from law enforcement and the military. After my military service, the Veterans Administration afforded me the opportunity to further my education. I returned to Mississippi State University where I will graduate in December with a master’s degree in public policy and administration. I will strive to utilize this education along with my life and work experiences for the benefit of all the citizens of Oktibbeha County.
“I have experience in construction of homes, roads and levees. Along with that are hundreds of hours of experience in the operation and the maintenance of heavy equipment. I want to use this experience to ensure that county equipment is maintained at a high level thus to reducing operating costs and prolonging the life of the equipment.
“Furthermore, I have political experience serving as vice-chairman of the North Central Mississippi Regional Railroad Authority, a public board charged with re-opening a rail line through Oktibbeha County in order to attract economic development to the area.
“I believe in being fiscally responsible and feel that the County should seek more efficient ways to operate and utilize the best management practices wherever possible.
“I believe in a transparent government in which citizens are openly aware of actions taken by the board of supervisors and are actively involved in the process through citizen advisory committees. I will be responsive to the public and will be available to take your calls and address your concerns.
“I believe local governments within the area could cooperate and find ways to work together in order to offer more efficient services.
“I will work hard to bring new businesses, new jobs, and new economic development to Oktibbeha County.
“I would like to ask for your support and vote in the Nov. 8 general election.
