Neil White will sign his two new coffee table books, “Mississippi’s 100 Greatest Football Players of All Time” and “Mississippians II” this afternoon from 3-5 p.m. at the Book Mart & Cafe on Main St.
Book Mart owner Carolyn Abadie said the store originally discovered the author over a year ago after writing a memoir, “In the Sanctuary of Outcasts,” and is proud to see him become a successful publisher. Abadie said she is thrilled to feature White’s newest offerings.
“His coffee table books are gorgeous,” Abadie said. “They really shine the light on folks from Mississippi.”
“Mississippi’s 100 Greatest Football Players of All Time” is a 160-page, oversized photo book which ranks Mississippi’s greatest football players from Nos. 100-1.
“No other state compares to Mississippi when it comes to football,” Creative Director and Publisher Neil White said. “Compiling this list was not only great fun, it was mind-boggling to see how many all-pros, all-Americans and hall of famers this state has produced.”
The book has already received acclaim for its extraordinary action photos of each of the players. It also features an account of individual accomplishments and records. Additional lists are also included, such as every Mississippian in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the College Football Hall of Fame, the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, Conerly Trophy Winners and the editors’ choices for the all-time Mississippi offense and defense.
White said more than 800 former Mississippi players were considered for the rankings.
“We know some folks will disagree with our ranking,” White said. “We welcome feedback and discussion. Our methodology is thoroughly outlined in the introduction to the book, and our website has a feature where fans can submit their own top-players list.”
White’s other book, “Mississippians II,” is a 416-page second edition that has been updated and revised. It features over 150 new famous, notable, extraordinary and little-known Mississippians, as well as over 300 new photographs.
The book opens with two-page photographic spreads of Mississippi’s greatest icons, such as Elvis Presley, Oprah Winfrey, William Faulkner, B.B. King, Jim Henson and Archie Manning.
“Mississippians II” pays homage to Mississippians in categories such as movies, television and stage, sports, music, writing and literature, visual artists, innovators and visionaries, entrepreneurs, journalists, social reformers, little-known Mississippians, people to watch and colorful characters.
“’Mississippians II’ is a tribute to the extraordinary talent that has sprung from this state,” White said. “I challenge anyone to point to another state with so many talented entertainers, athletes, writers and entrepreneurs.”
“Mississippi’s 100 Greatest Football Players of All Time” retails for $45 and “Mississippians II” retails for $49. The book is available at bookstores across the state, including the Book Mart & Cafe, or online at http://www.Mississippians.com [3].
Abadie said she hopes everyone will take this great opportunity to come out and have one or both of these beautiful books signed by the author.
“I just think they’ll make a great Christmas gift for anyone who loves football, the state of Mississippi or both,” Abadie said. “You can get your books, get them signed and then we’ll even wrap them for you for free.”
