GALLMAN – The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers had strong quarters in the second and third to get a 60-33 road victory against Copiah Academy Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Vols, who improved to 21-3, fell behind 11-8 after the first quarter, but out-scored their host 18-2 in the second quarter and 26-7 in the third quarter. Starkville Academy turned the first-quarter deficit into a 26-13 advantage by halftime.
Sallie Kate Richardson scored 19 points and pulled down six rebounds for the Lady Vols. Along with eight points from Anna Prestridge, three players, April Burney, L. Temple and Brittany Jacks, totaled six points each.

GALLMAN – Copiah broke open a close game in the fourth quarter and won easily on its home floor.
After the Vols fell behind 19-12 at the end of the first quarter, they battled back to cut the margin to 25-22 at halftime and tied the game at 31-31 at the end of three quarters.
Copiah out-scored SA 18-6 in the fourth quarter which proved to be the difference.
Zack Thomas was the only Vols to score in double figures with 10 points. Carnail Minor was next in the scoring column with nine points.
SA's record dropped to 7-15 with the loss. Both the boys and girls teams will be back in action Tuesday at Hillcrest Christian.
