Ga. man arrested on 2 charges by county deputies

The Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Georgia man Wednesday at the Highlands Plantation on charges of failure to register as a sex offender and conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.

James F. Hogan Jr., 25, of 931 East Fincher Road, Covington, Ga., was arrested following a week-long investigation. The investigation was prompted by citizen complaints about Hogan living in the Highlands Plantation. Investigators seized a small amount of marijuana at the time of Hogan’s arrest.

Hogan is charged with one count of failure to register as a sex offender and one count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance. He is also being held for extradition to Georgia on warrants of failure to register as a sex offender and probation violation.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations website, Hogan was convicted in 2008 of a statutory offense.

OCSO Commander Brett Watson said Hogan will likely be arraigned today, at which time his bond will be set. It is unclear when Hogan will appear in court for his extradition hearing.
