Golden Triangle area gospel choir Voices of Newfound Faith is sponsoring the Maben Day in the Park today from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Shivers Park, with a cash drawing at the end.
Choir group member Keela Clark said the event will feature games including bingo, musical chairs and a spelling bee as well as activities such as horseback riding and four-wheeler riding. Participants can win prizes, and donations go to the choir to upgrade musical equipment.
The event will feature performances from several gospel groups along with Voices of Newfound Faith, including New Kings of Joy, Prosperity of Christ and Unique Voices, Clark said.
She said the day in the park family-oriented celebration will be fun for all who participate.
“We have many vendors who have donated prizes to us, and we have many different games planned for the event,” Clark said. “We are expecting a spiritually-filled fun event. We’ve reached out to all four schools in the Oktibbeha County School District and run announcements on (local radio), so I expect a big turnout.”
Voices of Newfound Faith member Chavonne Gibson said donations are being accepted and there have already been many contributions from local businesses.
“We have a lot of musical talent around the area, but we’re short on funding for equipment,” Gibson said. “All donations are going to pay for new equipment such as microphones so when a church is having a program we can help them with musical events that occur.”
Gibson said she’s looking forward to the musical performances.
“I think the kids are going to have a terrific time,” she said. “It’s going to be a blessed day.”
