Starkville Christian School will hold its graduation ceremony 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church’s Outreach Center.
A total of six students are set to graduate: Paul Michael Calhoun, Matthew Rives, Rebecca Sepaugh, Lincoln Whittington, Rikki Williams and Valedictorian Ryan Lawrence.
SCS Principal Randy Witbeck said the school only has a total of 210 students across all its grades.
“The small school environment ... builds into an individual approach on their education, not only to be able to instruct them in the academics but also to (lead them as disciples in) their spiritual lives,” Witbeck said. “It lends to a close family environment.”
Because of this closeness, Witbeck said he has gotten to know several of the family members who plan to attend. The school has also built strong ties to all of the area’s Christian churches, he said.
It may be a small school, but Witbeck said that doesn’t mean SCS’s graduates are immune to “senioritis” — they are excited for the ceremony.
“When it comes to things like that, they’re no different than any other high school students,” Witbeck said. “They’ve put in a lot of hard work and are looking forward to the summer.”
