Higgins said it would have cost an additional $1.7 million or more to examine any potential remains and make the site shovel ready. An additional factor in recommending the move away from the project was the time it would take to complete the exploration. Higgins said working around the cultural remains would add an additional 18 months to the timeline of building the park. To subscribe to the E-edition, please click here.Starkville, MSJAMES CARSKADONInnovation Park plans put on holdStarkville Daily Newsurn:publicid:dailypress.com:20270Change0Usable2015-03-24T11:27:59-04:00 urn:publicid:dailypress.com:20269Final Unity Park plaque unveiled2015-03-24T11:26:35-04:002015-03-24T11:26:35-04:00Copyright 2010 Starkville Daily NewsTo subscribe to the E-edition, please click here.Starkville, MSALEX HOLLOWAYFinal Unity Park plaque unveiledStarkville Daily Newsurn:publicid:dailypress.com:20269Change0Usable2015-03-24T11:26:35-04:00 urn:publicid:dailypress.com:20268Supervisors mull comprehensive plan, potential ordinances2015-03-24T11:22:49-04:002015-03-24T11:22:49-04:00Copyright 2010 Starkville Daily NewsTo subscribe to the E-edition, please click here.Starkville, MSJAMES CARSKADONSupervisors mull comprehensive plan, potential ordinancesStarkville Daily Newsurn:publicid:dailypress.com:20268Change0Usable2015-03-24T11:22:49-04:00 urn:publicid:dailypress.com:20267Art show opens for juror in Cotton District Art’s Festival2015-03-24T11:21:28-04:002015-03-24T11:20:21-04:00Copyright 2010 Starkville Daily NewsStarkville Area Arts Council’s Art in Public Places (AiPP) committee will host a reception for the exhibit from 5:30-7 p.m. on Thursday, where Whitfield will be present. To subscribe to the E-edition, please click here.Starkville, MSCONNOR GUYTONArt show opens for juror in Cotton District Art’s FestivalStarkville Daily Newsurn:publicid:dailypress.com:20267Change0Usable2015-03-24T11:20:21-04:00 urn:publicid:dailypress.com:20261Bulldogs land Howland: Past National Coach of Year hired to become 20th coach in MSU men's basketball history2015-03-23T21:02:27-04:002015-03-23T21:02:27-04:00Copyright 2010 Starkville Daily NewsMSU Athletic Director Scott Stricklin shared the news via Twitter with a picture of himself and Howland holding a cowbell. Mississippi State basketball can compete at the highest level, just as several of our other teams have done in recent years, and I’m excited to have coach Howland lead us back to that level.”Howland spent 10 seasons at UCLA before being fired in April of 2013. During his time with the Bruins, he went to three-straight Final Fours from 2006-08, including a runner-up in 2006. He also won the Pac-12 regular season title in his final season. Before going to Los Angeles, Howland coached at Northern Arizona and Pittsburgh. He won league titles at both schools. I know we have some of the greatest fans in the country and I look forward to making them proud of our team and our efforts. Hail State.”Howland hasn't coached the past two seasons, and has been a color commentator for both Fox Sports and NCB Sports college basketball broadcasts.“I am impressed with coach Howland’s resume,” MSU president Dr. Mark E. Keenum said. “He has been successful at the highest levels of college basketball, and I have every confidence he will bring that same proven, winning formula to Mississippi State as well. I know the MSU family will embrace coach Howland and his family and will fully support his efforts to put our Bulldog basketball team in position to compete for championships.”MSU loses only two players from this year's squad in forward Roquez Johnson and guard Trivante Bloodman. Former Starkville High School standout Ware scored 10 points and pulled down a team-high 7.1 rebounds a game during his junior campaign. Both will be seniors along with guard Fred Thomas, who were a part of Ray's first recruiting class.Starkville, MSBEN WAITBulldogs land Howland: Past National Coach of Year hired to become 20th coach in MSU men's basketball historyStarkville Daily Newsurn:publicid:dailypress.com:20261Change0Usable2015-03-23T21:02:27-04:00 urn:publicid:dailypress.com:20258Reports: Howland to become next MSU men's coach2015-03-23T14:49:37-04:002015-03-23T14:49:37-04:00Copyright 2010 Starkville Daily NewsNBCSports.com was the first to report the possibility that Howland would be a candidate to replace Rick Ray as coach of the Bulldogs, then ESPN and CBSSports.com quickly followed. On Monday, many other reports surfaced.ESPN's Jeff Goodman reported that MSU and Howland have reached a verbal agreement and that Howland was on his way to Starkville.State has not scheduled a press conference as of early Monday afternoon and officials at the school have had no comment to this point.Howland spent 10 seasons at UCLA before being fired in April of 2013.
