Entertainment lineup set for SAAC Gala

The Starkville Area Arts Council is putting the finishing touches on its annual fundraising gala.
The “Hats Off to the Arts” Gala is set to take place on Nov. 6 at the MSU Hunter Henry Center at 6 p.m. The Gala will be an exciting event chalked full of entertainment to please even the most discerning tastes.
The “Hats Off to the Arts” Gala will kick off the musical entertainment with what is sure to be a memorable performance by a talented young singer and Starkville native, Mary Kathryn Sanford.
Mary Kathryn graduated from the Starkville Academy in 2006 and recently graduated from the University of Mississippi with a degree in vocal performance.
In addition to Sanford’s talents, Gala guests will be treated to an evening of dancing provided by the popular Columbus band Swing Shift.
Swing Shift’s signature sound consists of mainly great rock-and-roll hits from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s with R&B and soul classics from these eras as well. Swing Shift formed in 1985, has played hundreds of shows, and has opened for noted performers such as Lee Greenwood and Ricky Skaggs.
Members of Swing Shift include Johnny Coleman, Robin Roberts, Wes Fields, “Bird” Crain and Ben Ferrell, all of whom have been involved in music most of their lives. Swing Shift is sure to help the Gala guests dance the night away by combining top quality music with a dynamic stage presence.
Finally, in addition to all the musical entertainment, attendees will have the chance to participate in a silent auction. The Gala Committee has been working hard to present an array of items for guests to bid on throughout the evening.
Items include trips for the outdoorsmen, rubbing elbows with MSU sports figures, jewelry, fine art and many more fine items. Proceeds from the silent auction benefit the Starkville Area Arts Council’s grants and scholarships program which supports local artists, students, and organizations.
Tickets are still available for the event. Tickets are $75 and include dinner, drinks and all the wonderful entertainment mentioned above. To purchase tickets visit the Starkville Area Arts Council at Suite 18, 101 S. Lafayette St. in Starkville.
