SPD seeking public
comments during
accreditation process

Starkville Police Department officials are seeking comments from the public today as the agency undergoes an on-site assessment for reaccreditation by the Mississippi Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (MSLEAC).
Part of the state accreditation program included an on-site visit in by an MSLEAC assessment team composed of law enforcement practitioners from instate agencies to review SPD policies and practices, interview officers and department staff, and closely examine files to ensure that 121 professional standards are being met.
With the SPD up for reaccreditation this year, a new MSLEAC assessment team will be visiting the department Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
As part of the on-site assessment conducted by the MSLEAC team, SPD employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments on the SPD by telephone between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. today by calling 323-4135 during the two-hour period.
Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must directly address the SPD’s ability to comply with MSLEAC standards and, in turn, allow the department to be recognized by the national Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
Once the assessors complete their review of the department, a report will be issued to the state commission, which will decide whether to award reaccreditation to the SPD.
