Thursday’s win for the Starkville 8-year-old Dizzy Dean All-Stars wasn’t exactly what Reggie Little and his coaches expected out of his players.
Admittedly, they didn’t swing the bats consistently, but a win was a win.
On Friday, they were playing their kind of baseball.
The All-Stars poured on 22 runs including back-to-back seven-run innings in the second and third to blow past Columbus National and deep into the winner’s bracket with a 22-6 win in West Point.
“(Thursday) we weren’t hitting it well and had a couple of players that didn’t look very good hitting in batting practice,” Little said. “They did really well (Friday). We had a lot of good hits. We hit it tons better and played solid defense.”
The Starkville 6-year-old team also won in Grenada 32-24.
