AiPP to show Armstrong's works

Starkville Area Arts Council's next Art in Public Places show will highlight award-winning artist Vicki Armstrong.

A kick-off reception will take place at 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. July 12 in the lobby of the Greater Starkville Development Partnership in downtown Starkville. The show will feature Armstrong's watercolor works of a variety of subjects, from still life to open air coastal settings.

Armstrong, a Mississippi native, developed her fascination for watercolor painting during her years at Mississippi College pursuing a Bachelor of Art.

"I enjoy the challenge that watercolor brings from convincing the medium to see the painting the same way," Armstrong said.

Armstrong is a signature member of the Mississippi Watercolor Society, Jackson Watercolor Group and the Eastern Shore Art Association. Some of Armstrong's honors include Best of Show at the MSMS Membership Show in 2015, cover artist for the University Medical Center Candlelighters 2004 calendar, and finalist in the Landscape division in Artist's Magazine’s 2003 annual art competition. Armstrong's work has been featured in exhibitions around the state, including a solo exhibition at her alma mater in 2015 in the Gore Gallery named for her mentor, Dr. Sam Gore.

Works by Armstrong can also be found in many private and corporate collections.

“AiPP is a program that strives not only to bring a gallery experience to Starkville, but also to introduce artists to the community,” SAAC Executive Director John Bateman said. “We are exploring ways to expand the program to benefit artists and their community.”

Works will be available for purchase. The show will run through August.
