First-year Mississippi State head coach Joe Moorhead has added help to his recruiting staff.

MSU has confirmed that Moorhead has hired Matt Wilson as the Bulldogs’ director of player personnel. The position was previously held by Rockey Felker, who retired last year.

Wilson comes to Starkville from Indiana, where he was the Hoosiers’ senior director of recruiting. Wilson also brings Southeastern Conference experience with him. He was an associated director of player personnel at the University of Tennessee from 2014 through 2016 and helped the Volunteers bring in three straight top-15 recruiting classes, including the nation’s fifth-rated class in 2015.

Prior to his two years in Knoxville, Wilson was a recruiting aide at the University of Connecticut in 2012 and 2013. The 2013 Huskies recruiting class was the top-rated in UConn history.

Wilson also has an National Football League background. He worked as a pro scouting and football operations assistant for the Arizona Cardinals in 2010 and 2011. Around the same time period, Wilson also served as a media relations/athletic operations assistant at his alma mater, Arizona State.

Wilson now comes to MSU and tries to help continue the recruiting momentum Moorhead’s staff has built. The Bulldogs currently boast the nation’s No. 11 recruiting class according to 247Sports. The class currently has 17 total commitments, with seven four-star players and 10 three-star individuals.
